A History of Iponrin Descendants Development Union in Ilorin-East, L.G.A, 1956-2018.

Ilorin-East L.G.A from 1956 to 2018. The union is a grassroot association which was formed for
the purpose of developing Iponrin town. The union was established in 1956 with its early name
as “Iponrin Community Development Association” (ICDA). But in the long run, the name ICDA
was changed to “Iponrin Descendants Development Union” (IDDU) in 2005 to make it a
compulsory association for all Indigenes of Iponrin. Data used in conducting this work were
generated from primary sources through in depth interviews. Secondary sources were also used
in the form of published works, chapters in books, articles in journals, B.A Dissertations and
M.A and Ph.D. Theses. This research traces the historical background of Iponrin town and the
genesis of Iponrin Descendants Development Union and how it has contributed to the socio- economic and political developments of Iponrin and in Ilorin-East L.G.A at large.
